Franklin Police issue warning about child abduction scam on Facebook – Boston News, Weather, Sports

FRANKLIN, MASS. (WHDH) – The Franklin Police Department has issued a warning about a child abduction scam on Facebook on Sunday.

Police said they were notified Monday of a Facebook post on the Franklin MA Virtual Yard Sale group stating a child ran away from the attempted abduction and the incident was reported to the police. The post had over 75 shares.

Officials said the post is a scam after investigating the matter further and no similar incident was reported to the Franklin Police Department.

Nobuhle Magutshwa, the person who posted the original post, also posted it on various Facebook groups around the country. Police said other activity on her Facebook page is consistent with other social media scams.

Officials said urgent public safety matters like this in the future will be shared immediately by the Franklin Police Department’s social media accounts.
