Police investigate ‘threatening statements’ made against Manchester-by-the-Sea school – Boston News, Weather, Sports

MANCHESTER BY THE SEA, MASS. (WHDH) – School officials and local police in Essex County have launched an investigation after receiving reports of a threat targeting the Manchester Essex Regional Middle High School.

In a press release, authorities said they were first alerted Tuesday morning about an apparent student who allegedly made “concerning and possibly threatening statements” against the school. School officials were originally informed of the incident by a parent, who reported it to a school resource officer.

According to the release, an investigation started immediately, with a suspect identified soon thereafter. Officials said the suspect was “not currently attending school” and that as their investigation continues, police believe there was no credible threat posed against the school.

“Please know that we are here to support your children and that their safety and wellness are paramount,” Superintendent Pamela Beaudoin said in a statement. “By making this incident public, our intent is to reassure students, staff and families that we have procedures in place for their safety and that safety planning and training are major priorities at MERSD.”

The release went to detail how, out of an abundance of caution, the school community may see an increased police presence around the middle high school.
