Tragic Accident: Police, OSHA investigate after worker falls at JFK Presidential Library, dies from injuries – Boston News, Weather, Sports

BOSTON (WHDH) – Crews responded to the JFK Presidential Library and Museum Wednesday morning for what officials are calling a tragic accident, after a contractor working inside the building fell several floors while washing windows, dying from his injuries.

Boston Police said they received a call at 10:33 a.m. for a window cleaner who sustained serious injuries after falling five stories inside the building. Responding officers then found the worker suffering from a traumatic injury, according to authorities. He was pronounced dead soon after.

JFK Presidential Library and Museum Director Alan Price said the organization was “profoundly saddened” by the contractor’s death, offering condolences to his loved ones and colleagues in a statement. Price said the victim had previously worked safely in the building for many years as a member of the window cleaning company team that was pressure washing the building on Wednesday.

“This is a shocking and tragic event and I extend my deepest sorrow to his family and the JFK Library family,” Price said.

Price noted that both the Boston Police Department and OSHA were conducting a full investigation into the incident.

Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said there was still a lot to determine in terms of what led up to the contractor’s death, but that preliminary reports suggested the death was a tragic accident.

“I know everyone inside is concerned about what’s going on,” Hayden said. “It does, at the end of the day, appear to be a tragic accident, but we will engage in a thorough investigation.”

According to Price, the museum will remain closed tomorrow, before reopening again on Friday, Oct. 7.
